HPCSA’s Ethical Code of Conduct for all health professionals in general and psychologists specifically

The ethical code upholds basic human rights and respect for the integrity of the individual patient, regardless of the concerns of others, including the therapist. The code requires strict confidentiality. The only exemptions are being required to testify in court; when someone wants to hurt her/himself; or when someone intends to or has committed a serious crime.

In the case of younger children, the law affords them the right to confidentiality.
