INTRODUCTION

First and foremost, congratulations on completing your BA Honours in Psychology or being in the final stages of doing so this year.

As you may know, applying for a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at South African universities can be an incredibly challenging and rigorous process. It’s often confusing and, at times, a solitary journey.

Unfortunately, the competition is intense, with most universities selecting an average of only 5–15 students from an average pool of over 500 applicants for their Master’s programs.

It’s worth noting that application deadlines are typically around 30 April/May 2025, leaving prospective students with limited time to submit their applications and to be ready.

WHAT TO EXPECT ABOUT THE REFLECTIVE BOOTCAMP SEMINAR?

This seminar is a reflective psychoeducation session where I will share my personal journey toward becoming a Clinical Psychologist.

I will highlight the core competencies and essential skills that I believe are crucial for applying to a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with greater confidence. This will include a combination of theoretical insights and practical tips, providing guidance on what to prioritize, what is typically expected in this field, and how to strengthen your application for a Master’s Degree.

Furthermore, I will present an in-depth, integrative psychological case study that explores all facets of the patient, demonstrating how these elements come together from a psychological perspective

Through this case study, I will thoroughly reflect on both its academic dimensions and practical applications, as these are key aspects that universities emphasize in their Master’s Degree programs. Ultimately, this presentation aims to demonstrate a deep understanding of the patient and the integrative nature of psychological practice.
